ICT functionality that affords new opportunities and catalyses changes

Each new development of ICT creates new opportunities to change how education systems and institutions operate and to change teaching and learning approaches. Often a new development can make the existing use of ICT in education more beneficial to teachers and learners.

The aspects of ICT which are important in improving learning are analysed in the 'value-add' analysis.

There is a great deal of choice for educators as to how to implement ICT in their institution. The best choices will depend on the nature and locality of the institution and the educational philosophy of the school/college - so these should be considered before choice of what ICT to use is made. The ICT implementations section looks at the range of choices of ICT implementations that are available.
